..WATER FESTIVALS..

The Cape Cod Groundwater Guardian Team and Year XII AmeriCorp Cape Cod will be teaming up once again to offer festivals to Cape Cod Schools, grade 4-6 for the 2011-2012 school year. The complete Calendar of Water Festival Events is shown in the table below.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

2011-2012 Festival dates are fully booked. See below for 2011-2012 schedule.

Schools that were not able to be accomodated in 2011-2012 will be placed on a wait list.

What is a Water Festival?

Water festivals are an interactive method of teaching students the fundamentals of water. In small groups, students progress through a series of hands-on stations exploring and learning. They take home a strong message about how water impacts their daily lives and leave the festival with new ideas to save and protect water through simple personal actions. Comments from Students and Teachers.
From students:
“I learned to turn the water off when brushing your teeth.”
“I did not know that pollution could spread so fast and fertilizer was that bad. Now, I know why my mom buys
organic food.”
“ I learned that if fertilizer gets in the pond. It will make the plants grow and the plants will take up all of the
oxygen so the fish dies.”
“An aquifer is the thing that holds all our drinking water.”
“I think learning about water is important because you know not to litter and clean up after your dogs.”
From teachers:
“Fantastic job! Americorps volunteers showed expertise and amazing professionalism. All the activities were
excellent. The activities that addressed the aquifer were particularly relevant to our situation on Cape Cod.”
“This was fantastic! We’d love to have it again next year .”
“The students in our school will be able to carry the information they learned into their everyday lives.”
