..STORMWATER SOLUTIONS FOR CAPE COD..

Stormwater pollution comes from many different sources and must be addressed with a variety of methods.  Those methods are referred to as Stormwater Best Management Practices, or BMPs.  Stormwater BMPs are defined as physical, structural, and/or managerial practices that prevent or reduce the pollution of water.
Structural BMPs
This page includes BMPs best suited for Cape Cod, pictures of good versus bad designs, and comments from local professionals on current BMPs in place throughout Cape Cod.

Non-Structural BMPs
This page includes information on managerial practices and municipal housekeeping.

Low Impact Development Techniques
These pages talk about how Green development, or Low Impact Development (LID), is a very important component to the maintenance of stormwater runoff on Cape Cod.  LID allows developers to emphasize the integration of site design and planning techniques that conserve the natural systems and hydrologic functions of a site, essentially limiting the amount of runoff first created in developments.

Cape Cod will also benefit from a drainage system that is broken up into multiple entities, utilizing multiple BMPs within the same system to maximize stormwater recharge and pollutant containment. There are also some pretreatment options and BMPs over others that are best suited for the Cape Cod landscape.  The installment of BMPs that are suitable for the Cape Cod terrain, when coupled with LID and a compartmentalized drainage system, will encourage optimal stormwater containment and runoff pollution control.
